- These can be purchased at pharmacies without a prescription.
- Prescription medications:
- These are prescribed only after a doctor’s examination and when deemed necessary. In accordance with the Japanese Medical Practitioners Act, doctors prescribe appropriate prescription medications after examining the patient’s condition. Patients must use the medication as directed by the doctor and are prohibited from storing it without instructions, using it based on self-judgment, or transferring it to others.
- As a general rule, Japanese clinics do not sell medications on-site (with some exceptions). Please receive your medication at an off-site dispensing pharmacy with your prescription. Furthermore, prescription medications cannot be prescribed without a doctor’s examination. Therefore, you cannot receive an examination or prescription on behalf of a family member, friend, or acquaintance.
